The Capstan Group, LLC is a firm that specializes in economic and community development. Many consultants either do the work or advise; we do both. On some projects, we take the “do it” role, and roll up our sleeves alongside with staff to get the work done. On other projects, we take more of a coaching role to build the capacity of our clients’ staff and help their organizations grow. The first thing we do when we begin to work with clients on any project is to start by learning about their specific needs. Every organization is different–with unique leadership, structure, revenue streams, staff, and work at hand.
Here is an abbreviated list of services that we provide:
- Project Management. Typically, clients seek management from our firm for projects that are
either “stuck” and need an experienced manager to get them moving again, for projects that need to be streamlined and systematized, or for projects where organizations simply do not have sufficient staff. Our work often includes building project teams; scheduling; budget management and financial analysis; navigating municipal processes to secure public approvals; assisting and coordinating work of project and professional partners; recruiting and negotiating with other interests; preparing and delivering project-related presentations, documents and information; marketing and public relations; and establishing and maintaining management, monitoring and reporting systems.
- Planning. Our firm approaches strategic business and community planning by working to
ensure that the final plan has strong buy-in and internal drivers. We are extremely comfortable with a host of planning models and are committed to tailoring any process to a particular organization, its stakeholders and its goals. For a variety of clients, The Capstan Group has provided services such as designing the planning process; coordinating and facilitating community meetings; seeking and analyzing input from stakeholders; providing data and information to inform clients' decisions; drafting planning documents; and providing technical assistance for implementation.
- Special Studies. We help determine the effectiveness and impact of programs, based on a
variety of methodologies including surveys, case studies and quantitative research methods. Examples include conducting cost/benefit analyses, evaluating program effectiveness, and quantifying the impact of planned projects.
