Current economic development clients include:
New Haven Gateway Downtown Development Project: The firm is providing project management services for the City of New Haven Office of Economic Development for the Gateway Downtown Development Project, a $256-million revitalization of four historic city blocks in downtown New Haven. The project includes relocating Gateway Community College and Long Wharf Theatre to downtown facilities, constructing a new parking garage, improving an underground tunnel beneath the project area, and bringing to fruition a park and mixed-use components.
New Haven Shartenberg and Ninth Square Development Projects: The Capstan Group coordinated the City of New Haven's RFP processes for the former Shartenberg site and for the former New Haven Coliseum's use as a temporary parking lot.
New Haven Citywide School Construction Program: As part of the construction of the new Cooperative Arts and Humanities Magnet High School, the school construction program has contracted with The Capstan Group for fundraising services to close a significant funding gap for the school, which will revitalize its downtown site. The Capstan Group is working closely with Gilbane Building Company, which oversees New Haven's schools construction program, to identify funders and seek and secure funding to offset the increasing costs of construction.
West Side/West End NRZ: The Connecticut Economic Development Fund and the West Side/ West End neighborhood in Bridgeport hired Zared Enterprises and The Capstan Group as planning consultants to help local stakeholders develop a plan for Neighborhood Revitalization Zone (NRZ) distinction. The Capstan Group guided the planning for the economic development components of this plan.
Black Rock NRZ: Like the West Side / West End neighborhood, the Black Rock neighborhood of Bridgeport and the State have engaged The Capstan Group and Zared Enterprises together to assist the neighborhood in gaining NRZ distinction. The team is assisting community stakeholders in developing the Black Rock NRZ plan, with The Capstan Group handling the economic development component of this process.
Science Park Development Corporation: The Capstan Group is coordinating the RFQ process for the redevelopment of Tract A of New Haven's Science Park.
Local Private Developer: The firm is working with a local private developer to secure public approvals to develop condos in the historic Ninth Square in New Haven and build the stock of homeownership in the downtown area. The Capstan Group also provides an array of services for this client, co-leading the public approvals process for a new mixed-use town center in Connecticut, the redevelopment of a former mill into more than 150 residential units in New Hampshire, and the adaptive reuse of a blighted and formerly heavily industrial property into light industrial use.

Dress for Success Worldwide: The national headquarters of a multi-national affiliate organization provides suits to clients who have an interview and are re-entering the workforce. The Capstan Group is helping the organization plan an evaluation system to be able to determine the impact of its services on the self-sufficiency of their clients. Subsequently, The Capstan Group has been hired to provide ongoing technical assistance to help all three New York City branches implement their client evaluation programs.
Career Gear: The Capstan Group was hired to help the organization determine its measures for sustainability and plan a long-term evaluation system to monitor the impact of Career Gear on the self-sufficiency of its clients. Subsequently, Career Gear has hired The Capstan Group for two more projects--to provide ongoing training and technical assistance for implementation of its client evaluation system, and to develop the evaluation component of Career Gear's prisoner re-entry program.
ChildPlan, Inc.: The firm provides strategic planning to help this new nonprofit develop its plan to become a sustainable organization. The Capstan Group helped the organization write and submit a three-year grant for interim operational funding and developed a five-year strategic and financial plan that was recently approved by the organization's board. The Capstan Group has subsequently been brought on for two additional projects, including one to help ChildPlan create a data-based planning process to develop organizational priorities.
